born, raised, and educated in South arkansas

a family with work ethic
Sonia comes from a hard-working family who gave many examples of how to provide for and nurture a family. Her paternal grandfather worked for Lion Oil Corporation in El Dorado. Gail Eubanks was a homemaker for Sonia and her only sister, Shelley; her father, Troy, worked over twenty years for Murphy Oil Corporation before retiring. Sonia has been married twenty-five years to John, who manages the family business, Calhoun’s Arkansas Medical Supply. They have three children and one daughter-in –law. Jamie Barker is twenty-two, a graduate from Ouachita Baptist University and married to Allie Smith Barker. They live in Little Rock where Allie is finishing a degree in nursing and Jamie is pursuing a law degree and working to get good people elected to state level offices in Arkansas. Hope is twenty and attending Southern Arkansas Univeristy in Magnolia to earn her accounting degree. She also works part time at Martin Transport in Smackover in their finance department. Hogan is eighteen and a senior at Smackover High School who plans on attending Henderson State University to study in their aviation program.
giving back to her community through involvement
Sonia and John have been active members of First Baptist Church in Smackover for nearly twenty years. Sonia teaches an adult Sunday school class, sings in the choir, serves on the recreation and finance committees, and has served with many of the youth mission trips alongside her children. She taught for several years the area wide Bible Study Fellowship class that met in El Dorado. Sonia works yearly in Vacation Bible School, faithfully follows the Smackover athletic teams (no matter what the weather is like!), and volunteers to help with community projects. She is a member of the American Association of Teachers of French, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of Conservative Arkansas.
